Submitting Your Site (or Links)

To Search Engines

Introduction

The first thing I do with any website I create is submit it to the search engines.

Google has a habit of ignoring your site for up to 6 months so the sooner you inform Google that your site exists, the quicker you shoud find your site listed.  Google also adds credit to websites which are online the longest so its important to get listed in order to gain credibility with Google in the future.

It can be very frustrating relying on people finding your websites through search engines so I only treat search engine traffic as a bonus.  I am ranking very high already in Google for some competitive keyword phrases for my Art From Steel website however my market analysis showed me that the people I plan to market to rarely find me through search engines anyway.

In my experience I've been able to rank very high in other search engines such as Ask and Yahoo, however these engines just don't seem very popular these days.  Google is without doubt the most important search engine to be ranked in

Recommended Website:  Quick Index Tool, Free

I use a little-known  online tool called Quick Indexing Tool (QUIT) to inform Google about my website.  The writer has done various magic tricks to ensure that your website SHOULD get added to Google within 48 hours.  Strangely it took about a month for me to get my Goodbye Kitty website recognized by Google, but this is still faster than if I leave Google to find my website myself.  I have had great results with this free service in the past.

I'm not exactly sure why but QUIT often fails when you click on submit.  I get all sorts of errors and it is probably to do with the site getting busy.  If this happens to you, its very easy to just try again a few minutes later.

The next thing I do is submit my site to all other search engines.  Most people believe that once your site is online a search engine should find you.  In some instances this is true but it certainly doesn't do any harm to submit your sites anyway.  If you submit your sites yourself you often have the opportunity to tell the search engines a little more about your site such as what language it is in, what the site is about etc.  You also should find your site gets listed faster.

Recommended Software:  Internet Business Promoter, Free Trial (Usually $249)

Internet Business PromoterIBP is an excellent program which will submit your link or website to literally hundreds of search engines and directories.  It is an expensive program however I would suggest to download the 30-day unlimited trial which works without restrictions.  The software is constantly updated when search engines change.

The software is great for submitting to search engines that cannot be done automatically and also you can submit to website directories too.  The program comes with many other features such as rank checker, competitor analysis tools and pay-per-click campaign management.

Recommended Website:  Submit Express, FREE

Submit ExpressSubmit Express will submit your site to 20 top search engines for free.  The service is simple and fast however you will receive a lot of junk mail after submission so its worth using a disposable email address when using the site.

THe website also offers a paid service too where your site can be submitted to hundreds of smaller search engines too.  I don't believe this is good value as 99% of visitors will only come from the top few search engines anyway.
