Register as a Freelancer for Free
There are a number of website online that will let you join and register for free. The downside to this is they charge a commission (up
to 15%) of your income if you find work, but there are also a few sites with small monthly fees that do not charge commissions at all. To
begin with I suggest working with a free site so that your only investment is your time. When you begin to get a few projects and a bit of
experience then you can consider joining a few more sites if you want to expand.
Most Freelancer sites are built for computer programmers and webmasters so don't be confused by the language they use when referring to a
Freelancer. The most popular terms you might see are ...
|
An Employer - who'll be paying you to do the work may be known as: A Webmaster, An
Employer, A Business, A (Service) Buyer or A Client
A Freelancer - selling their skills to the employer may be known as: A Coder, A Freelancer, A Professional,
A (Service) Provider

There are a number of things to look for before joining these sites:
Do they charge for membership? I suggest only working with the Freelancer sites that charge a commission
from your earnings. This means that you pay nothing until you receive money yourself.
- How can you get paid? Ideally you want a site that will pay you to PayPal, E-gold or Bank wire with little or no
fees.
-
The quality of the workers. Some sites advertise that they sure best for high-cost, high-quality work where you
can make the most money, other sites may be the low-cost leaders where you may find yourself competing with Asian and East-European
workers who'll work for very low rates.
Recommended Freelancer Websites

I use Scriptlance the most. Scriptlance is mainly for computer coders and designers but there are also opportunities for data-entry work and
writing. I have noticed that bids have gotten more expensive in the last year but the Freelancers there range from very cheap
to incredibly expensive.
Scriptlance is free to join and there are no restrictions on how many projects you can bid for. Scriptlance take a 5% commission though on any projects that you accept (minimum $5). They have a free and very
useful escrow feature and Freelancers can withdraw their money via Cheque, Money Wire, PayPal or E-Gold so it really can be used by
everybody. You can withdraw your money at any time.
I find Scriptlance is good for cheap low-quality projects. Quite strangely they don't list projects by categories which means that it is
open for literally any type of work. They charge 15% commission on all your payments which I think is too much but it may be practical
for small and cheap projects.

Rent-a-Coder has an escrow service. Payments are made only once a month via either PayPal, cheque or by Western
Union (fees apply).

I like how well-designed this site is and how you can open one account to be either a buyer or seller. Rather than take a commission,
IFreelance charges fees from $2.50 a month to every Freelancer.

I find that Freelancers on E-lance tends to be the most expensive. This is good for you however there is a monthly fee in registering here
as a Freelancer and I'd only look into this site once you are better established and looking to expand. E-lance offers free escrow service and pays out to credit cards, by cheque and by wire transfer.
There are many more Freelancer websites too however I think I've given you the main ones.
