Get a Freelance Job
and Work For Yourself

Introduction

If you want to make a credible and consistent income online then you will need to work at it and put in the hours.

This week I'm going to open your eyes to the online Freelancer industry where you compete with other people to complete work.  A few years ago I did some freelance work when I needed money to buy a computer.  I did some work helping to research and edit a research project and earnt myself about $700 for about 4 days of full-time work.

Freelancing online is done in what is known as a reverse-auction.  An employer advertises that he wants a project to be done and Freelancers compete with each other to get the work.  Some people will compete on the work by offering themselves at a lower price that other Freelancers, others may try to impress the employer with better samples, more sincere replies and offers of higher quality results.

The idea of working as a Freelancer may seem simple but to be successful at it online requires a bit of preparation and planning.  If you've tried freelancing before and not succeeded or if you're interested in trying it now I'll make sure you are able to do well from it.

I spend a lot of time nowadays looking for Freelancers to work with me.  Sometimes I need somebody with a lot of skills such as a programmer, but most of the time I look for people who can do simple projects which I just don't have the patience for.  This may be article writing, search engine submission etc. and its the kind of project anybody could do.

Advantages of Becoming a Freelancer

Working as a Freelancer has some excellent advantages:

  • You can work when you want to work by accepting only the projects that are convenient.  You could work a certain number of hours a week, or set aside some time during your weekend, or perhaps do some work as a way of putting money aside for a vacation or purchase.

  • You can often get repeat and regular work if your client is happy with the result.

  • You can make a full-time income from this yet you can also take breaks away from it too.

  • It is an excellent way of testing your own skills to build up your confidence if you are nervous about becoming self-employed.

  • It is available to everybody, no matter what age they are or where in the world they are located.

  • No matter what your background you'll always be able to find projects you are capable of doing.

  • You will certainly learn about new industries and opportunities that your client will be involved in.

Disadvantages of Becoming a Freelancer

Freelance work isn't for everybody though.

  • It can be very competitive and you may be competing with people who are prepared to work much cheaper than you.

  • You'll need to work to deadlines and provide updates and samples to your clients.

  • If you are looking for a money making idea that you can set up and forget about then you'll get no benefit from freelance work.

  • It can be a challenge getting a credible reputation and getting your first few project may be difficult.

  • There are only so many hours in a week available and therefore there is a maximum limit to how much you can earn.
